Linux Desktop – PPTP Setup Guide
This tutorial describes how to configure and setup a PPTP VPN connection in Ubuntu GNU/Linux using the network manager.
We presumed thatUbuntu PPTP VPN package have already been installed.
Step:1 Click on the NETWORK icon, then VPN CONNECTIONS and CONFIGURE VPN… to continue.
Step:2 Under the VPN tab, click on the ADD button to create a new VPN connection.
Step:3 Choose POINT-TO-POINT TUNNELING PROTOCOL (PPTP) for the VPN Connection Type and click CREATE to continue.
Step:4 Name the connection, eg. EarthVPN and enter EarthVPN server address for the VPN Gateway. Enter the VPN usernameand password you received.Click on the ADVANCED… button to continue.
Step:5 Make sure PAP and CHAP and EAP to be unchecked.Check USE POINT-TO-POINT ENCRYPTION (MPPE), select 128-BIT (MOST SECURE) from Security and Compression, check ALLOW STATEFUL ENCRYPTION and make sure Allow BSD data compression and Allow Deflate data compression and Use TCP header compression checked and click OK to continue.
Step:6 You’re almost done. Click SAVE to save your EarthVPN connection settings.
Step:7 Click on the NETWORK icon, then VPN CONNECTIONS and EarthVPN then if all goes well you will connect to the EarthVPN PPTP Server.
Once connected, you can test your connection by launching your browser and going to www.iplocation.net
To disconnect, click on the NETWORK icon, then VPN CONNECTIONS and DISCONNECT… to end the connection.
